The emerald Lake Königssee-Bavaria

The emerald Lake Königssee

Lake Königssee, one of the most beautiful lakes in Germany! I had the opportunity to visit this spectacular location and have an amazing time at Lake Königssee in Berchtesgaden which is in the Southeast of Germany in Bavaria. Königssee in German means King’s Lake.

Lake Königssee with its emerald green color and nestled at the foot of the imposing eastern wall of Mount Watzmann in the heart of the Berchtesgaden National Park is one of nature's true masterpieces.

The park covers an area of approximately 210 square kilometres and is about 200m deep.   It is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including alpine meadows, forests, and a number of endangered species.

Any outdoor enthusiast will have an amazing time here because this area in Berchtesgaden is filled with adventurous activities. Not just because of the beautiful nature but there are just so many things to do around Lake Königssee. You can go hiking, biking, swimming, visit a waterfall with an infinity pool and search for hidden viewpoints. You won’t even get the chance to be bored!

Königssee lake is a natural beauty of Berchtesgadener Land, and it has charm that can be truly realized only when seen in real life.

Crystal clear water surrounded by lush trees and mountain peaks as far as the eye can see. In Alpine lakes are the absolute prettiest lakes. Due to the cold conditions and runoff from snowmelt on the mountain, they are wonderfully clear and take on magical colors. Aside from the stunning views of the peak thrills, it’s about the calmness and serenity that such journeys let you feel.

The sense of smelling wild alpine flowers, touching the tender pine cones or hearing birds chirp their way through wind gusts always tend to occupy permanent spots in our hearts.

Königssee Boat Tour

There are daily boat trips starting from Königsee Seelände. They usually make two stops – St. Bartholomä and Salet. .. When the lake is covered with a mist this creates a pretty mysterious atmosphere.

Take the first boat out and don’t get off yet at Saint Bartholomeus but stay seated until you reach the second stop Salet. Most people will visit Saint Bartholomeus first which means that you’ll have the area around Obersee almost entirely to yourself. The boat tour to Salet and back takes around 90 minutes but it’s totally worth it. As soon as you leave the docks you’ll be surrounded by the silence of the mountains.

The highlight of the tour is the boat guide playing trumpet in the middle of the lake. The surrounding rocks create an echo effect to showcase the beauty of the echoes bouncing off the mountains. The notes played over the echo's made the most beautiful chords themselves. It was truly enchanting.

When my daughter and soninlaw went for hiking I sat upon a wooden bench overlooking the highest peak of the Watzmann the ethereal beauty of the snow-kissed Alps all around. The fleeting mist rising from the turquoise blue waters caress my face. The wind blows a little colder . As I glance at my own reflection in the crystal-clear water, I notice the gigantic mountain having a peek of its own.

Each hike has its own little moments of bliss and this halt at an altitude of 1500m was certainly one, as each of us surrendered to the sounds of leaves rustling and birds chirping. And as the alpine flowers swayed in graceful rhythm with the winds, I feel the Piece and my heart dancing along to the symphony. The nature there is incredible and the views are spectacular in every direction you will look. That’s why it is worth to spend in the region to explore all its beauty.
